			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>MANILA—The Department of Finance (DOF), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), and the World Bank signed today a tripartite loan agreement for a project designed to promote investments in local public infrastructure and services.</p>
<p>Approved by the World Bank Board of Executive Directors on December 1, 2011, this new US$50 million financing will fund the Regional Infrastructure for Growth Project (RIGP) designed to stimulate physical and economic integration among a number of local government units (LGUs) as well as support post-disaster initiatives through improved access to finance.</p>

<p>MANILA (AP)- The Philippines&#8217; first impeachment trial of a Supreme Court justice opened Monday, in a major battle of President Benigno Aquino III&#8217;s anti-corruption campaign targeting his detained predecessor and her allies.</p>
<p>Chief Justice Renato Corona was impeached by the House of Representatives last month on corruption allegations as well as accusations that he tried to block prosecution of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who has been detained on vote-rigging charges.</p>

<p>The Philippine Embassy in Rome reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. dispatched a seven-man Embassy Emergency Response Team to evaluate the situation on the ground and to provide the necessary assistance to Filipino nationals and Filipino crew members of a cruise ship that ran aground off the coast of Grosetto, Tuscany, Italy last Friday evening, January 13.</p>
<p>Led by Consul General Grace Cruz-Fabella, the team went to Porto Sto Stefano, the port that serves as the initial rescue center of the crew and passengers of the cruise ship Costa Concordia.</p>
