Lindsay Lohan carted off in handcuffs to jail
BEVERLY HILLS, July 20, 2010 (AFP) – Troubled Hollywood starlet Lindsay Lohan was taken in handcuffs from a courthouse here Tuesday to begin a 90-day jail term for breaking her parole after a 2007 drunk driving conviction.
Lohan arrived at the courthouse amid a crush of media cameras, at around 8:30 am (1530 GMT), accompanied by her new lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley.
She appeared before the judge—Marsh Revel—who sentenced her on July 6 to serve three months in jail for breaking the terms of her parole after she missed seven classes of a 90-day, in-patient substance abuse program she had been ordered to attend.
While she broke down in tears at that earlier court appearance, Lohan seemed composed and resigned Tuesday as the judge again pronounced her sentence.
Lohan, 24, was then placed in a police car for the short drive to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, with a scrum of media cameras and television helicopters in hot pursuit.
Authorities said however that her actual jail time could be as little as one-fourth of the sentence, given jail overcrowding and the relatively minor nature of her infractions.
Lohan, who starred in the 1998 film “The Parent Trap” and 2003’s “Freaky Friday”, was arrested in May 2007 after crashing her Mercedes in Beverly Hills.
After a stay in rehab, the star of “Herbie the Lovebug,” “Mean Girls” and other hit films, was caught two months later for drunk driving and cocaine possession. She served a mere 84 minutes in jail. ?
